Mediathread Features

Mediathread features are designed to support a class or group of researchers who are collecting, sharing, annotating, and analyzing media objects in one shared space.

Importing into one shared space

Mediathread allows a small community – such as a class or a research group – to collect different media items (video, audio, images) from across the web and share them. An easily-installed browser extension allows visitors to external sites to collect items into Mediathread. Once they are collected in Mediathread, selections of these items can be created, tagged, and annotated.

Browsing and organizing collections

Once collected in Mediathread, items and selections of them are available to the whole class or group. A number of search filters in Mediathread allow users to quickly find media they’ve collected or discover items and selections made by others. Selections can be searched by title, owner, tag, term (for groups using controlled vocabularies), and date. Users can search across all items in Mediathread, or limit the search to just the items they’ve imported or worked on. In this way, Mediathread balances communal sharing and discovery with individual collection-building.

Making selections

Mediathread supports close analysis and targeted reference of multimedia through its ‘create selection’ feature. A selection of any item collected in Mediathread can be created, saved, and shared – and easily incorporated into compositions.

Creating and tracking assignments

Instructors who use Mediathread with a class are able to create assignments, designate due dates and visibility for each assignment, track student responses, and provide individual feedback to these responses. Assignment dashboards help instructors and students organize their work.
